Couples (and/or marital) counseling is an important part of overall family counseling. Whether a couples goals are to increase their relationship quality, learn co-parenting techniques that are more effective and long-lasting, or to determine the outcome of the present relationship, this type of counseling can be very valuable.
The recent couples research by Dr. John Gottman has immensely helped the field of marriage counseling by developing an overview of what ‘makes’ relationships have the ability to heal, continue into the long-term, and be healthy and significantly happier.
The principles he has discovered in extensive research have identified what older forms of marital and couples therapy were helpful, and what approaches showed poor success.
Thanks to this new information I am pleased to offer a new approach to couples counseling that has allowed many couples the ability to re-build or strengthen troubled relationships. I have seen so many marriages and relationships flourish with these new insights into human connection through the use of this remarkable research.
It is not only communication skills or the style of language between two people that affect how they function on a day to day basis. A far deeper understanding of each individual, their basic belief systems, insights concerning love and connection, and views of their lives and meaning, and life in general, has greatly enhanced the couples counseling field and the deep and lasting solutions we can now offer couples who want to thrive rather than survive. We now have tools to help couples reach the happier relationships they have been wanting.
Either couples or individual counseling can occur to assist someone with current relationship problems. This is determined with the couple after thorough assessment of each couples situation and a collaborative plan for therapy is then developed.
I hope you will call me if you are struggling in your relationship. There is hope and this can be an exciting and life enhancing experience.
